The Gainsbourg family.

Ever since I wrote the previous blog I keep remembering loads more wonderful women that I regularly fall a little bit in love with (It's statements like this that keep poor Jack questioning my sexuality- I APPRECIATE the female form, we're something else, us girls!)

Don't you worry though, this is not another list of girls I fancy.. no, it's far more cultured.

I am completely obsessed with the colab between the genius Beck and Charlotte Gainsbourg, total babe, actress and singer. I guess being the daughter of the man, the legend Serge Gainsbourg, it's no surprise that the actress, known for her roles in 'Science of sleep', '21 grams' and 'I'm not there' tried her hand at singing.

The album, produced by Beck, has been out since 2009 and is, by no means a well kept secret... but it's so bloody good I just had to write about it!

My favourite song, the single 'Heaven can wait' has a pretty nuts video which you can see HERE.
Plus Beck is pretty sexy, if you're in to the skinny, talented sort.. which i definitely am.

On the Topic of the Gainsbourg's, there's a new Biopic out about Serge which, (i think) will hit the cinemas at the end of this month entitled 'Gainsbourg (Vie heroique)'.. From what I've heard about the film, it's in french (with subs) and is bound to be of a very sexual nature (I mean it's Serge!)
I'm pretty stoked to see it!

Apologies for this post being so text heavy (so many words so little sense!)
To make up for it here is a picture of an embarrassed looking dog in a monkey suit, courtesy of stuffonmymutt.com. Genius.

Edit: Apparently I'm a little slow on the up take- the film has been out since the beginning of this year, or so i'm told. Oops.

A montage of the beautiful

If someone were to ever ask me which male celebrities I have a wee crush on there'd be no problem- I could reel off a list of 5 of my top ten men without even thinking about it. The other day however, I was caught off guard when my house mates and I were trying to compile a list of our top 5 women. Boy was it hard, I actually had to go off think about it, draft a list, rewrite it. (actually I didn't go that far, but you get my drift) There's so much to think about with women do they seem like nice, lovely women? Do they make bold fashion choices and do they commit to their personal style, if indeed they even have their own personal style? I scrapped the idea of making a list after a while- why limit myself to only 5 choices... so here, in no particular order is a list of women who, if I was that way inclined and if I could.. then I would.

They are all so bloody adorable!

Victoria Legrand (of Beach house fame)

The voice, the hair, the way she goes a bit nuts dancing
and headbanging whilst on stage. It's hard not to fall a little
bit in love with her when you see her live. What. a. Babe.

Kirsten Dunst

From Vintage Dunst (By 'vintage' i mean around Virgin Suicides/Bring it on era.. not as far back as Jumanji and interview with a vampire) to the newer stuff, including Elizbethtown and Marie Antoinette, it's hard not to fall in love with her cute smile and sunny looks. Also she's go genuinely lovely, laid back street style. Add to that the fact that she's set to play Camille in Kerouac's 'On the Road' (a favourite of mine) and her recent modelling stint for Opening Ceremony's new collection (which can be seen here) lets face it, how could anyone not love her?

Zooey Deschanel

A bit of an obvious one.. it seems everyone is after a bit of Zooey, especially since her role as Summer in '500 Days of Summer'. An actress AND a singer/songwriter (and not one of those actresses who decide that they can sell records off the back of their success as an actress, who are auto tuned to within an inch of their lives- Lindsay Lohan, Hilary Duff, I'm looking at you) Turns out Zooey's pretty talented as both a singer and a song writer and, correct me if i'm wrong but nothing about her seems manufactured. Also she's married to Ben Gibbard of Death Cab, That's pretty rad.

Charlotte Kemp Muhl

Beautiful Voice, Beautiful Face and she's dating The son of a Beatle (Sean Lennon). Another multi-talented beauty, she's a model and also in the band 'The ghost of a saber Tooth Tiger' with Sean Lennon (They sound quite a lot like the Beatles?!) Also she has the raddest dress sense and the most ridiculous collection of clothes..

Alexa Chung

Another obvious one but this woman can do no wrong in my eyes. Well dressed, a dry sense of humour and she seems like she's not afraid to make fun of herself. Also.. she's just too bloody cute to not include!

Mary Kate Olsen

Sorry Ashley, you're pretty cool too but it's Mary Kate that I have an unhealthy obsession with. Bold fashion choices- i don't agree with them all but she seems to dress with such integrity. I love the way he twins have managed to prove themselves as proper actresses as well as designers and lose their squeaky clean child actor image without going completely off the rails!

My room

I have just realised that i have TWO whole posts dedicated to the horniman (and now, inadvertantly 3!)
Whilst it would appear that visiting the museum has been the highlight of, not just my week, but of the whole summer I promise I have been up to other things!

I have been immersing myself in flat hunting and with any luck will be in a new place by september. I love the house I'm in now and I love the people I'm living with.. It is however too big a house and living with 9 people is not always easy so Jack and I are currently looking to downsize.

As sad as I am to have to leave my dear room, I'm a bit of an interior design obsessive and so pretty stoked to have a whole new room to decorate!

Here are a few images of my current room:

Being poor students Jack and I sourced all our furniture on the cheap- in fact the lovely little shelving unit storing our books, cd's and dvds was found on the street with a note attached saying "Please take me. I'm free :)" Well, that was reason enough for us!

I took the photos on my digicam using a nifty little trick a photographer friend taught me. To get the soft sepia tones I merely stretched some beige tights over the lens and voila no photo editing needed!

Horny men

Apologies if you get the wrong impression from the above title- i promise it's not nearly as exciting a post as the title suggests. False advertising or what?

A couple a' weeks ago Jack and I visited the Horniman (snigger) Museum in Dulwich. Having been together for almost two years I feel it's important to keep things interesting (no, not with horny men) by going on dates, or little adventures. The great thing about living in London is that you can hop on a bus to almost anywhere and find some place exciting!

Anyway, I had some photos developed recently from a recent 'adventure' in our local park. Silly Jack opened the back of the camera half way through the film obliterating some images, but the ones that survived were speckled with some rad light leaks.

Thankyou Jack for the heinous close ups.

Thursday, 8 July 2010

So yesterday Jack (the other half) and I went to visit the Horniman (snigger) museum in Dulwich where there were lots of Taxidermy animals all of which were contained in glass cases except for one ginormous walrus. Lovely. Well, this outing provided ample opportunity to take photo's and i'm currently waiting for the film to be developed before I realise that either I'm a photographic genius or that it's time to hang up the camera and stop wasting my money on film. Tense stuff.

So due to lack of photo's here are some wonderful pieces of jewelry that i came across on Etsy.

These can be found here. Where the seller Auka, describes them as 'tiny little worlds'. Ahhh!

You can even order personalised jewelry, so if you've ever wanted to imortalise your family in a ring or a pendant this is the store for you.

Which 70's show?

You know that ol' expression "He/She was born in the wrong era"..
I often feel that the 70's would have been the ideal time for me.. what with the music, the fashion, the 'laid back, don't give a fuck attitude', Joni Mitchell hooking up with everybody, in fact, everyone hooked up with everyone.

Having said that I've got it pretty sweet in the 21st Century and with the 70's aesthetic being all the rage (light-streaked, grainy photo's taken with lomography cameras, vintage clothing in vast supply) I have the best of both worlds. Plus some people are still hooking up with EVERYONE (Tiger, I'm looking at you)

Also my boyfriend assures me that 'That 70's show' isn't the most realistic portrayal of the 70's. I refuse to believe him!

    Jackie Burkhart. What a babe.

Some things I once saw. Photopost.

I've been toying with the idea of starting a blog for quite some time now.. That day is finally here! I'll keep the first post simple- nothing overly ambitious.

Faced with nothing to do this summer I have decided that I am going to start learning (with the aid of blogs and youtube) how to make my own clothes and also set my self a project to go out to wonderful places and photograph beautiful things. Alas, I have not managed to get off my arse yet to buy material, a sewing machine (i've heard they're useful in the sewing process!) or film for my camera so here are a few photos I've taken in the past.

Enjoy.
