Wedding lust. I do.

Hold your horses guys! No I am not getting hitched- not even close to it. Personally, I have never been the sort of girl who fantasized about wedding bells, I do's and  the marriage that comes after, even as a child whilst other little girls were 'getting married' and cradling their new born plastic babies I was living independently in my playhouse cooking mud pies for my adopted daughter ( as a kid, giving birth freaked me out so I turned to adoption!) However, before you decide that i have no heart.. there HAVE been times when I've seen photo's of someone elses wedding or lusted after a vera wang dress which has caused me to scour ebay for second hand wedding dresses and kitsch decorations. I even have a very secret folder for inspiration if ever the big day comes (obviously this folder is hidden from the other half for fear that he'll run a mile!)

Anyway.. I came across an entire album (and it's a huge album at that) of Angie's (of Norwegian wood fame) big day and I have to say it was PERFECTION. From what I can gather a lot of the wedding was DIY and even the dress cost a mere $5. sheeeeit.

Here are some of my favourite pictures and if you are planning a wedding (or even if you just like looking at pretty dresses) I recommend checking this album out HERE.

Enjoy.

Retro Summer.

(postcards/prints by Juliet Blaxland- checkout her online store, she has loads of cute kitsch postcards and images!)

Hello beautifuls, I am back from Croatia and boy a lot has happened whilst I've been away. I returned to learn that the Uk was raining and pouring whilst I was frolicking in the sea, the house I put an offer on fell through (which sucks) AND robbie williams got married. Big. News.

I have a few holiday snaps to show y'all although most of them were taken on my fuji instax (basically a polaroid but cheaper and a different film format) and are yet to be scanned in. Jack and I had a lot of fun with the instant camera, posing in lovely little back streets (I've also managed to have my photo taken with what seems like Croatia's entire kitten population!). There's something so satisfying about seeing a photo develop right before your eyes!

It's funny, when I'm on holiday I tend to bring items of my wardrobe that I wouldn't normally have the guts to wear in London town- so this holiday saw me wearing my ebay bought denim bra/top paired with my denim high waisters.. boy did i feel like daisy duke (and that's Catherine Bach not Jessica simpson!) I also like to pretend that I'm a holiday maker from the 50's (hence the instant photo's, Retro swimsuits and high waisters galore!) One thing i can never understand though is how women always looked impeccable, so glamourous on holidays. Sun, sea, heat and wind are a disaster for the hair and skin and yet in any retro holiday snaps you see the women seem cool and composed- not a hair outta place. Well at least i tried.

( Dayum, I can't actually connect my camera to the computer and therefore cannot upload any of my own photos so i will try and sort that out and in the mean time leave you with some original 60's holiday snaps- taken in Butlins when it was cool to holiday there)

Oh neglect.

Just a fleeting visit to blogspot world and then I'm off again.. if this blog were my child I would be done for neglect and it would grow up with a mountain of problems all steming from it's upbringing.. but I digress, not sure from what exactly, nor am I ever sure!

I am off for 10 days to Croatia for a much needed summer holiday, you London folk can sympathise with me when I say as great as it is that A/W collections are hitting the shops they seem to have tempted fate and brought with them A/W weather. Yuck.

So here's to what felt like a fleeting summer..
and here are some images from US based swim-wear company Zelda Sweetwater who's vintage inspired swimsuits are a dreaaaam..

I've got some lovely little one pieces i'm taking with me (actually, in total i think i have 4 different swimsuits- always be prepared right?) I doubt my hair and make-up will look quite as perfect as in the above images, you know with wind and salt water wreaking havoc.. but who cares when you're on holiday!

Au Revoir!

Tattoo club.

Tattoos, not to everyones taste and amongst some, still hold the reputation of being 'soo white trash'. Well with Chanels fake tattoo's last season and more and more 'classy' celebrities getting inked think Lily Cole, Jen An (not Lindsay Lohan et al). Hell, even Barbie had a butterfly on her stomach!

I myself, have just the one tattoo which I had done two years ago whilst my family were living in Beijing (risky getting it done it China, I know!) In the run up to my wanting one i had many people telling me I'd regret it in a couple of years when I'd 'matured a little'.. namely my parents (actually after my dad found out about mine he gave me a long lecture about how people will assume i'm a slut and bad news because of it- I didn't have the guts to tell him that it was actually his colleague and good friend maggie who put me in touch with her tattoo artist!)
The picture quality is pants i'm afraid but it's a delightful peacock feather with more detailing than my pain thresh hold could bear! It doesn't have any meaning to me per-say but it was pretty and uh.. i guess you could say (as my mother always does) that a peacock represents how bloody vain i am!

Anyways, I promised myself that after one that would be it. No more.... but oh, after spending another lethargic morning trawling t'internet and stumbling across the blog Tattoologist I became inspired by all the beautiful, creative body art I saw on there.

I am madly in love with the paper crane tattoo, it's simple, graphic style and bold outline and just subtle enough to sit on the back of my neck..

Or how about two lovely little hearts on my otherwise ugly pair of elbows?
This one actually reminds me of the adorable illustrations by the talented Caitlin

I got the design of my tattoo from a rubber stamp website, you may laugh but they have some of the most intricate and beautiful designs and I'm now considering this delicate birdcage

Or... if i'm feeling REALLY bonkers...

I know, it's a toy plane... but i just love the illustration and the shading, is that reason enough to have a plane tattooed on to myself, permanently... forever?

Or perhaps a more sensible option (no, not the merry christmas or the candy kane sillys!) a lovely little teapot.

Well, I'm going to mull it over for a while and probably chicken out like i have done for the last two years!

Da End.

Culottes.

Ooh times have been busy busy busy. But i'm back baby and ready to delve into the mysterious world of Culottes.. In actual fact the afore mentioned 'world' of culottes is really just a picture of myself wearing a pair that i fell in love with many moons ago but i don't wear them much because I'm not sure if a.) i can pull them off or b.) if they go with anything in my wardrobe.
Pretty simple outfit really, by no means a stretch of my imagination.

The photo's were taken in some long grass in our wonderful local park- it kind of looks like i'm chilling in a field of hay. Oh to be a farmers wife.

Look away if you hate the sight of happy couples- i know i do(!) Apologies for inflicting this on you; here is a photo of Jack and myself being soppy. Self timer is bloody G.

Ps. Saw I blame Coco play last night, at a glance I thought Coco Sumner was Alexa Chung. They have a similar look going on. Stoked.

The Gainsbourg family.

Ever since I wrote the previous blog I keep remembering loads more wonderful women that I regularly fall a little bit in love with (It's statements like this that keep poor Jack questioning my sexuality- I APPRECIATE the female form, we're something else, us girls!)

Don't you worry though, this is not another list of girls I fancy.. no, it's far more cultured.

I am completely obsessed with the colab between the genius Beck and Charlotte Gainsbourg, total babe, actress and singer. I guess being the daughter of the man, the legend Serge Gainsbourg, it's no surprise that the actress, known for her roles in 'Science of sleep', '21 grams' and 'I'm not there' tried her hand at singing.

The album, produced by Beck, has been out since 2009 and is, by no means a well kept secret... but it's so bloody good I just had to write about it!

My favourite song, the single 'Heaven can wait' has a pretty nuts video which you can see HERE.
Plus Beck is pretty sexy, if you're in to the skinny, talented sort.. which i definitely am.

On the Topic of the Gainsbourg's, there's a new Biopic out about Serge which, (i think) will hit the cinemas at the end of this month entitled 'Gainsbourg (Vie heroique)'.. From what I've heard about the film, it's in french (with subs) and is bound to be of a very sexual nature (I mean it's Serge!)
I'm pretty stoked to see it!

Apologies for this post being so text heavy (so many words so little sense!)
To make up for it here is a picture of an embarrassed looking dog in a monkey suit, courtesy of stuffonmymutt.com. Genius.

Edit: Apparently I'm a little slow on the up take- the film has been out since the beginning of this year, or so i'm told. Oops.

A montage of the beautiful

If someone were to ever ask me which male celebrities I have a wee crush on there'd be no problem- I could reel off a list of 5 of my top ten men without even thinking about it. The other day however, I was caught off guard when my house mates and I were trying to compile a list of our top 5 women. Boy was it hard, I actually had to go off think about it, draft a list, rewrite it. (actually I didn't go that far, but you get my drift) There's so much to think about with women do they seem like nice, lovely women? Do they make bold fashion choices and do they commit to their personal style, if indeed they even have their own personal style? I scrapped the idea of making a list after a while- why limit myself to only 5 choices... so here, in no particular order is a list of women who, if I was that way inclined and if I could.. then I would.

They are all so bloody adorable!

Victoria Legrand (of Beach house fame)

The voice, the hair, the way she goes a bit nuts dancing
and headbanging whilst on stage. It's hard not to fall a little
bit in love with her when you see her live. What. a. Babe.

Kirsten Dunst

From Vintage Dunst (By 'vintage' i mean around Virgin Suicides/Bring it on era.. not as far back as Jumanji and interview with a vampire) to the newer stuff, including Elizbethtown and Marie Antoinette, it's hard not to fall in love with her cute smile and sunny looks. Also she's go genuinely lovely, laid back street style. Add to that the fact that she's set to play Camille in Kerouac's 'On the Road' (a favourite of mine) and her recent modelling stint for Opening Ceremony's new collection (which can be seen here) lets face it, how could anyone not love her?

Zooey Deschanel

A bit of an obvious one.. it seems everyone is after a bit of Zooey, especially since her role as Summer in '500 Days of Summer'. An actress AND a singer/songwriter (and not one of those actresses who decide that they can sell records off the back of their success as an actress, who are auto tuned to within an inch of their lives- Lindsay Lohan, Hilary Duff, I'm looking at you) Turns out Zooey's pretty talented as both a singer and a song writer and, correct me if i'm wrong but nothing about her seems manufactured. Also she's married to Ben Gibbard of Death Cab, That's pretty rad.

Charlotte Kemp Muhl

Beautiful Voice, Beautiful Face and she's dating The son of a Beatle (Sean Lennon). Another multi-talented beauty, she's a model and also in the band 'The ghost of a saber Tooth Tiger' with Sean Lennon (They sound quite a lot like the Beatles?!) Also she has the raddest dress sense and the most ridiculous collection of clothes..

Alexa Chung

Another obvious one but this woman can do no wrong in my eyes. Well dressed, a dry sense of humour and she seems like she's not afraid to make fun of herself. Also.. she's just too bloody cute to not include!

Mary Kate Olsen

Sorry Ashley, you're pretty cool too but it's Mary Kate that I have an unhealthy obsession with. Bold fashion choices- i don't agree with them all but she seems to dress with such integrity. I love the way he twins have managed to prove themselves as proper actresses as well as designers and lose their squeaky clean child actor image without going completely off the rails!
